Robert Nichols, 75, of Knott, died on Monday, December 19, 2005, in a local hospital. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM Thursday, December 22, 2005 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Bro. Clifton Igo, Baptist minister of Lamesa, officiating and Bro. Ray McMorris, pastor of First Baptist Church of Ackerly, assisting. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM, Wednesday, at the funeral home.He was born to J.G. and Lidia Nichols, on February 8, 1930, in Big Spring, Texas and married June Jackson on December 31, 1949 in Big Spring, Texas.Robert was a lifetime resident of Knott, Texas and graduated from Knott High School in 1947. He had farmed at Knott since 1947 until retiring in 1990. He had also worked at Flower Grove Gin for many years. Robert took pride in his farming. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and the Farmers' Union of Christian Farmers. He loved to play dominoes and had won the championship dominoe player at the County Fair one year. He was a good and loving husband and father.He was a member of First Baptist Church of Ackerly where he served as church treasurer for many years. He had also belonged to Mt. Joy Baptist Church at Knott.Survivors include his wife, June Nichols of Knott; three sons and daughters-in-law, Bruce and Terri Nichols of Ackerly, Keith and Gwen Nichols of Lamesa, and Martin and Lesli Nichols of Knott; two daughters, Janette Brown of Ackerly, and Ann Nichols of Midland; one sister, Una Royalty of Columbus, Ohio; fifteen grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and one sister.
