Sam E. Lewis, Sr., 75, of Big Spring, died on Tuesday, March 30, 2004, in a Stanton nursing home. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, April 2, 2004 at the Peace Chapel at Trinity Memorial Park in Big Spring, with Terry Johnson, chaplain for Hospice of Midland, officiating. He was born on June 21, 1928, in Healdton, Oklahoma and married Rita Ray McDaniel on December 21, 1954 in Big Spring, Texas. She preceded him in death on January 16, 1996.Sam was a self-employed candy machine vendor. He served in the United States Army during World War II and during the Korean Conflict, receiving a Purple Heart. He was a member of Baptist Temple Church and was a member of the Men's Bowling Association. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Sam E., Jr. and Debra Lewis of Big Spring; one daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Paul Brown of Big Spring; one sister, Betty Watkins of Yukon, Oklahoma; one grandson, Jason Brown of Big Spring; three granddaughters, Jackie Brown of San Angelo, Jessica Lewis and Jennifer Lewis both of Big Spring.Sam was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home.Arrangements under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
