In Memory ofAnita King FlynnFebruary 24, 1934 – March 23, 2017Anita King Flynn, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, died on Thursday, the 23rd of March 2017 after a battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.Anita, daughter of Clyde King and Irene Todd Law, was born on the 24th of February 1934, in Bonham, Texas. She later moved to Paris, Texas where she graduated from Paris High School. Extremely striking, Anita was known for her physical beauty, but her inner beauty was her most noticeable feature. Her values were shown by how she treated people from all different walks of life and varied beliefs with the same loving kindness and great respect.Anita, a longtime Houston resident, valued service. She spent countless hours serving the community. She was a member of the Assistance League of Houston for 25 years. She helped start the Houston Zoo Docent Program where she served as President three times. She loved animals and enjoyed taking the ZooMobile to local schools. She also served on the Houston Parks and Recreation Board, and on various committees for the Houston Grand Opera, the Houston Symphony and the Houston Historical Society. In 1995, after her husband, Hank Flynn’s retirement, she moved to Lakeway, Texas. While living near Austin, as an avid reader and lifelong learner, she served on an advisory board for The School of Education at The University of Texas at Austin.While she loved volunteering, the center of Anita’s life was her family and her many close friendships. Her adored husband, Hank, preceded her in death. She missed him every single day since his death in 2000.With an enormous gusto for life, she was adventurous, enjoyed traveling, never met a stranger and loved sharing FUN with her family and friends. She greeted loved ones and strangers with hugs instead of handshakes. Her relationships grew through shared experiences such as: snow skiing, water skiing, floating the river with her friends (the “River Rats”), the annual Sweet Potato Queen Parade, boating on Lake Travis, and annual trips to Mexico and Park City, UT where she always included large groups. Her children, sister, grandchildren and nephews (“the cousins”) enjoyed their frequent trips to the lake where they were occasionally greeted by her throwing water balloons at them from the 2nd story deck.Because she was fun loving, authentic, warm, kind and relational, Anita (Nita) has too many surviving, close SUPPORTIVE friends to mention! Anita is survived by her children Melissa Rae and husband Mark of Midland, Prissy Snelling and husband Ty of The Woodlands, and step-children Lisa Flynn of Santa Fe, New Mexico and Steve Flynn and wife Lisa of Dallas/Lakeway; Anita’s grandchildren, Ryan Booth and wife Anne, Sean Rae and wife Anna, Sarah Kerns and husband Matty, Will Snelling, Ben Snelling, Kira Flynn and husband, Peter and Brianna Flynn, all called her Honey; Anita is also survived by her sister, Marsha Acock of Driftwood, Texas and Marsha’s children; Sky, Matt and Collin and their families who lovingly refer to her as Nini and Aunt Nini. Her cousin, Pat Burchett of Houston, also survives her. Anita (Honey) is survived by 4 great-grandchildren: Ellen, June, Jackson and Miles.In keeping with Anita’s wishes, the family is going to celebrate her life at a small private ceremony (she wanted a party).In lieu of customary remembrances, and for those desiring, memorial contributions may be directed toward The Brookwood Community or The Alzheimer’s Association or the charity of your choice.
