Janice L. Byrd, 83, of Big Spring, died Sunday, February 7, 2016 in a Midland hospital. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, February 11, 2016 at St Mary's Episcopal Church in Big Spring. Inurnment will follow at the church.Janice was born March 29, 1932 in Breckenridge, Texas. She graduated from Texas State College for Women as a licensed Dietitian. With that she worked for the Veterans Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, for Indian Health Services in both Tahlequah, Oklahoma and Santa Fe, New Mexico and then finally as the head of Food and Nutrition at the Big Spring State Hospital where she retired at the age of 82. Her work was her life.She was an ordained Episcopal Deacon for the Diocese of North West Texas and was assigned to St. Mary's Episcopal Church.Janice is survived by two daughters, Mary Frances Ryder and Janetta Louise Buffington both of Tulsa, Oklahoma; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Nell Short of Texarkana, and Connie Fowler of Big Spring; and a brother, Robert Mac Lovinggood of Odessa.She was preceded in death by a grandson, Shawn Ryder; her parents, Thurman and Dorothy Louise (McAlister) Lovinggood; and one brother, Billy Lovinggood.Memorials may be made to the St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 1001 Goliad St., Big Spring, TX 79720 or St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.Arrangements under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
