Carolyn Harrod Harkness, 88, passed away on Friday, June 6, 2014 in the early morning hours. The family will be accepting guests from 2:00 pm-4:00 pm on Sunday, June 8, at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at Westside Church of Christ on Monday, June 9, at 1:00 pm with Mike Vestal officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.Carolyn was born on June 21, 1925 to Dorsey H. and Ora Lee Harrod in Ellenton, Florida. She married Wilbur E. Harkness, Jr. at Barksdale Field, Louisiana on June 3, 1944. She was employed by a ship builder in Tampa, Florida during WWII when her husband was a pilot in the European War Theater. She was involved in Banking for a number of years, retiring in 1985 and moving from Houston, Texas to Midland, Texas until her death. Carolyn was the pride of life to her husband. Her loving, kind, gentle, and spiritual nature was shared by all that appeared in her life. She shared her faith in her spiritual work of the Lord as her husband served as an Elder in the Westside Church of Christ. All who knew her were blessed by her radiant reflection of Jesus Christ. She and her husband celebrated their 70th Wedding Anniversary just three days before she passed from this life.She is survived by her husband, Wilbur E. Harkness; eldest son, Wilbur E. Harkness, III; daughter, Jan Elaine Lary and husband, Milton Lary; younger son, William Lee Harkness and wife Brenda Ann Harkness; grandchildren, Nathan Lary, Kristin King, Lauren Ivanhoe, Brittney Cohorn, Brooklyn Harkness; niece Dorothy Lee Gifford of Florida and 8 great grandchildren.She is preceded in death by her father and mother, sisters, Joyce Miller, Mary Jo Bantle, and brother, Bill Harrod.The family would like to express their gratitude towards the staffs of Manor Park Rehabilitation and Manor Park Mabee Health Care Center.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (Alzheimer’s Association National Capital Area Chapter, 3701 Pender Drive, Suite 400, Fairfax, VA 22030 or by phone, 800-272-3900).Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
